The Steffens family purchased Vineyard 7 & 8 in 1999. Our vineyards, originally planted in the early 80’s, are located at the top of Spring Mountain at 2020 foot elevation. Currently the vineyards are comprised of 12 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and four acres of Chardonnay, with a small production of only 1600 cases annually.
Luc Morlet, formerly the Director of Winemaking at Peter Michael Winery, joined the team prior to the 2007 harvest. Taking on the role of Winemaker, Luc’s attention to detail and experience with Bordeaux style wines has become a great asset in helping us craft the highest quality wines from our vineyards and give them a true sense of place here on Spring Mountain. Wesley Steffens, previously the Cellar Master at Harlan Estate, began overseeing management of the winery in 2006, as well as take on the role of Assistant Winemaker.
We currently produce three wines: “7” Cabernet Sauvignon, “8” Chardonnay, and to be released for the very first time in October 2010, “Estate” Cabernet Sauvignon. This new wine added to our portfolio was crafted by Luc with the intent to create a flagship label that exemplifies the very best our estate has to offer. With limited production to less than 600 cases, only the best fruit is used to represent our beliefs in both passion and winemaking
Our philosophy remains simple yet focused; we strive to produce premium-handcrafted wines highlighting a sense of place within the Spring Mountain District through experience, passion and humility.
We look forward to seeing you on the mountain and providing an experience for you here at Vineyard 7 & 8!
